A-Ha - Band Information
A-Ha is a Norwegian synth-pop band that was founded in 1982 and originated from Oslo, Norway. The group’s music is classified as new-wave, pop-rock, synth-pop, and alternative rock. The band was formed by three members; Magne Furuholmen (keyboards, guitars), Paul Waaktaar-Savoy (guitars), and Morten Harket (vocals). The three of them left Norway for London to make a career in music and create the band.
A-Ha released the first version of the song, “Take On Me,” in 1984. It was re-recorded and re-released the next year and became a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. This song made the band become the first Norwegian group to hit the US’s number one spot. “The Sun Always Shines on TV” was the second single by the band that peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. Since then, A-Ha has released several hit singles along with notable studio albums.
The first studio album by A-Ha was Hunting High and Low, released in 1985. It was followed by Scoundrel Days (1986), Stay on These Roads (1988), East of the Sun, West of the Moon (1990), Memorial Beach (1993), and Minor Earth Major Sky (2000). The band also went on several tours, including World Tour (1986–1987), Stay on These Roads Tour (1988–1989), Lifelines Tour (2002–2004), Analogue Tour (2005–2007), Cast in Steel tour (2015–2016), MTV Unplugged tour (2018), and Electric Summer Tour (2018). A-Ha won eight MTV Video Music Awards and 10 Spellemannprisen awards, the Norwegian equivalent of Grammy Awards.
