The Prom Information
Matthew Sklar composed the music for the musical The Prom, while Chad Beguelin wrote the lyrics, and Bob Martin and Beguelin co-wrote the book. Jack Viertel came up with the initial idea. As they journey to the conservative town of Edgewater, Indiana, to assist a lesbian student who has been barred from bringing her lover to the high school prom, four Broadway players who are grieving their famed days are followed in the musical. Before its Broadway debut in October 2018 at the Longacre Theatre, the musical had a 2016 tryout in Atlanta, Georgia's Alliance Theatre.
On December 11, 2020, Ryan Murphy's film adaptation was released on Netflix. Murphy served as both producer and director. A Swiss-German adaptation of the musical performed from December 11, 2021, to January 16, 2022, at Le Théâtre Emmen. Notable modifications were made to the musical's setting from Edgewater, Indiana, to the Lucerne hinterland in the German translation by Nico Rabenald, Andréas Härry, Irène Straub, and Silvio Wey. In addition, the four performers hail from Hamburg.
