Something's Afoot Information
A musical called Something's Afoot parodies detective stories, particularly those written by Agatha Christie, particularly her 1939 novel And Then There Were None. Ed Linderman contributed additional music, and James McDonald, David Vos, and Robert Gerlach wrote the lyrics and music. The musical follows a party that accepts an invitation to Lord Dudley Rancour's lake house. The investigation into the murder of the affluent lord is time-sensitive.
After 61 performances (including 13 previews), Something's Afoot closed on July 18, 1976, after opening on May 27, 1976, at the Lyceum Theatre on Broadway. Tony Tanner was in charge of the direction and choreography, and the cast comprised Liz Sheridan as Lady Manley-Prowe, Gary Beach as Nigel, and Tessie O'Shea as Miss Tweed. The next year, in 1977, it received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Musical of the Year after playing for 232 performances at London's Ambassadors Theatre and starring Sally Smith.
Following its London run, the show had numerous productions in various nations, each with its unique language. Showtime Networks aired a 1982 London stage production that included Jean Stapleton as Miss Tweed and Andy Gibb as Geoffrey, recorded live in front of an audience.
