Sister Act Information
The musical Sister Act features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and additional material by Douglas Carter Beane, and is based on the smash hit 1992 film of the same name. After having its world premiere in Pasadena, California, in 2006, the original West End production starring Patina Miller and produced by Stage Entertainment and Whoopi Goldberg opened on June 2, 2009, at the London Palladium. Since then, it has been staged in various countries and on Broadway.
Musical, starring Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior and Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, appeared at London's Hammersmith Apollo for 39 performances beginning July 29, 2020. The announcement was made on October 23, 2019. After being postponed twice owing to the epidemic, the production opened on July 19, 2022, and ran until August 28, 2022 (with Goldberg no longer attached to the project). On March 18, 2022, it was reported that Beverly Knight would play Van Cartier in the film.
A third tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland was scheduled to begin at the Leicester Curve Theatre on April 21, 2020, but it too was postponed until the Manchester Palace Theatre on June 27, 2022. The Dominion Theatre has announced an extended engagement, with Beverley Knight and Alexandra Burke alternating performances as Deloris Van Cartier from March 15 through August 31, 2024.
