Shrek - The Musical Information
Shrek The Musical is a musical based on the book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. The music is by Jeanine Tesori, and taken from the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, William Steig's 1990 book Shrek!, and the elements of sequels Shrek 2 and Shrek Forever After. The original Broadway production opened in December 2008 after a trial run in Seattle. It closed after its run in January 2010. Shortly after, Shrek The Musical went on a United States tour, which opened in 2010.
Shrek The Musical began previews on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on November 8, 2008. The official opening took place on December 14. The songs included in the Broadway production are "Big Bright Beautiful World," "Story Of My Life," "Story Of My Life (Tag)," "The Goodbye Song," "Don't Let Me Go," "What's Up, Duloc?," and "This Is How A Dream Comes True."
The original Broadway production won 2009 Tony Award and three Drama Desk Awards along with many nominations. The original London production won a 2012 Laurence Olivier Award and three nominations.
