Ramayana Information
Rawayana is a popular band from Venezuela that was established in Caracas in the year 2007. The band members call their sound "trippy pop" and claim it draws inspiration from various musical styles, such as reggae, funk, and salsa. In addition to Alberto "Beto" Montenegro on vocals and guitar, the band has Antonio "Tony" Casas on bass, Andrés Story on drums, Alejandro Abeijón on guitar, and Montenegro on both instruments.
They were up for Best New Artist at the 18th Annual Latin Grammy Awards for 2016's Trippy Caribbean but ultimately lost out to Dominican musician Vicente Garcia. The political and economic turmoil in Venezuela is addressed in the lyrics of Rawayana's 2021 album, Cuando los Acéfalos Predominan, and in the music videos accompanying the album's tracks.
The record, which featured Los Amigos Invisibles, Cheo Pardo, and Akapellah, was released in connection with a public art project in Mexico City.
