Ben Harney was the pioneer of Ragtime musical style, who also popularized it. John Philip Sousa popularized the march style of the Ragtime. Scott Joplin, who was a composer of the ragtime string of hits such as “The Entertainer” (1902) and “Maple Leaf Rag” (1899), got endless fame due to these publications.
Ragtime became an American form of popular music real quick right after its establishment. It was the first-ever African-American music style that has an impact on the mainstream popular culture of the United States. Jelly Roll Morton, who was known as a piano professor, played ragtime in the “sporting houses” of New Orleans.
Ragtime also led the world to some new dance steps. During the 1910s, these steps were popularized by Vernon and Irene Castle. The musical style also made its way to Europe. The 369th Regiment band of Europe James R. generated great enthusiasm during its tour of France in 1918. Ragtime also influenced early Jazz.
Dance orchestras also started to evolve real quick with Ragtime. It also started to be included in many repertoires of jazz bands.
In the 1950s, a more significant revival of the Ragtime occurred. In the 1970s, a different kind of recovery was brought forward with the help of four events. Many modern musicians are once again trying to find ragtime for the sake, just to incorporate it into their musical repertoires. The popular acts include Baby Gramps, Bob Milne, Tom Brier, Curtains for You, and Jay Chou.
