My Fair Lady Information
Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe wrote the script and lyrics, respectively, for the musical My Fair Lady. Eliza Doolittle takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, to pass as a lady. This plot is based on the 1938 film adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion. Higgins develops feelings for her despite his cynicism and inability to comprehend women.
On March 15, 2018, previews began at the Vivian Beaumont Theater for a Broadway revival produced by Lincoln Center Theater and Nederlander Presentations Inc. The show officially premiered on April 19, 2018. Opening on May 7, 2022, with an official opening on May 18, the production ran for 16 weeks, all the way up until August 27, 2022, in the London Coliseum, thanks to the English National Opera.
Hadden-Paton played Higgins again, while Amara Okereke played Eliza; Stephen K. Amos played Alfred P. Doolittle; Vanessa Redgrave played Mrs. Higgins; Malcolm Sinclair played Colonel Pickering; Maureen Beattie played Mrs. Pearce; and Sharif Afifi played Freddy. Michael Xavier as Higgins, Charlotte Kennedy as Eliza, Adam Woodyatt as Alfred P. Doolittle, John Middleton as Colonel Pickering, Lesley Garrett as Mrs. Pearce, and Tom Liggins as Freddy began a tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland in September 2022.
