Imagination Movers Information
The Imagination Movers was an idea proposed by four friends to local PBS stations in New Orleans, Louisiana. The folks at WLAE-TV were the first to take an interest, and they ultimately connected the band with Beth Courtney, president and CEO of Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Shortly after, LPB began screening videos created by the Imagination Movers that lasted exactly one minute.
The Movers gained a substantial local fan base by creating kid-friendly music that adults like listening to. Over a hundred thousand copies of their home-made CDs and DVDs were sold. They have received a total of fourteen national awards for their work, including recognition from the National Association of Parenting Publications (NAPPA) and Parents' Choice for their three independent CDs Good Ideas, Calling All Movers, and Eight Feet, and their grassroots DVD Stir It Up.
In addition, Kids Place Live gave the Movers' early repertoire significant airplay, helping to spread the band's name across the country. Disney took note in 2005 and began contract talks with the Movers to bring them on board. When the flood protection developed and erected by the Army Corps of Engineers to safeguard New Orleans collapsed during Hurricane Katrina in August, everything had to be rethought.
