Frozen - The Musical Information
Frozen is a musical based on the movie of the same name from 2013. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote the music and lyrics, and Jennifer Lee wrote the book. The central characters in the novel are Elsa and Anna, two princess sisters.
Objects and people can be frozen by Elsa's magical powers, but she has no idea how to manage them. Elsa runs away after becoming queen, accidentally traps her realm in a perpetual winter, and comes dangerously close to killing her sister. To rescue the day, she will have to sacrifice and demonstrate genuine love.
The Disney Theatrical Productions musical debuted in August 2017 in Denver, Colorado's Buell Theatre, for a tryout before making its Broadway debut in March 2018 at the St. James Theatre, where it received mixed reviews. Due to the pandemic, the Broadway musical concluded on March 11, 2020, following 26 previews and 825 regular performances.
Starting in November 2019, a U.S. tour was briefly halted in March 2020 and then resumed in September 2021. Then came productions on an international scale, culminating in a September 2021 opening on the West End.
Previews began on June 25, 2021, at Melbourne's Her Majesty's Theatre. The production, which included the same cast, opened on July 14, 2021, and closed in 2022. The Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, hosted a short engagement of the Australian production from February 5, 2023, until March 19, 2023. The roles of Elsa (Rix) and Olaf (Lee) were reprised.
