Forever Plaid Information
First staged in New York in 1989, Forever Plaid is a musical revue by Stuart Ross that has since gone on to be played worldwide. In this revue, we pay tribute to the close-harmony "guy groups" (such as The Four Aces and The Four Freshmen) that were huge in the '50s. The Plaids are the archetype for this tidy style of music. Tragically, a bus carrying Catholic schoolgirls on their way to watch the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show collided with a vehicle carrying high school friends as they were on their way to record an album. As the revue opens, the Plaids have come back from the grave for one more performance.
Three Coins in the Fountain, Undecided, Moments to Remember, Gotta Be This or That, Crazy 'Bout Ya, Baby, Rags to Riches, and Love are a Many-Splendored Thing are just a few of the songs performed throughout the musical.
After explaining the history of the revue's creation, Stuart Ross said it had its beginnings in 1987 at the West Bank Cafe. The revue was updated to include the murder of the Plaids before it ran at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Connecticut and the Downstairs Cabaret in Rochester, New York. In December 1988, the revue made its way to the Becton Theatre in Teaneck, New Jersey, for a run by The American Stage Company.
