Annie Information
Annie is an amazing musical written by Thomas Meehan, which has music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin. Little Orphan Annie, created by Harold Gray in 1924, inspired the film. Opening on Broadway in 1977, the show broke attendance records by staying in the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre) for nearly six years. It received seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and inspired other local productions and international tours.
On April 21, 2017, in Baltimore, Maryland, Angelina Carballo starred as Annie for the 40th anniversary performance. On May 21, 2017, after 745 performances, the tour concluded in Boston, Massachusetts. Ellie Rose Pulsifer took up the lead role on October 4, 2022, for a tour that ran through June 11, 2023. Rainier Trevino's run as Annie will continue on tour beginning October 7, 2023, and wrapping up on May 19, 2024.
Having already been performed by Craig Revel Horwood, Paul O'Grady, Jodie Prenger, and Elaine C. Smith in previous tours and West End runs, the role of Miss Hannigan was shared by Zoe Akinyosade, Harlie Barthram, and Sharangi Gnanavarathan in a new UK and Ireland tour beginning at the Curve in Leicester in February 2023.
