A Little Night Music Information
A Little Night Music is a musical featuring Stephen Sondheim's music and lyrics and Hugh Wheeler's script. The film follows the love stories of many couples and was influenced by Smiles of a Summer Night, directed by Ingmar Bergman and released in 1955. A little Nachtmusik is the German title of Mozart's Serenade No. 13, K. 525, and its English version is a straight translation of that term. A famous song composed for Glynis Johns, "Send In the Clowns," is included in the show.
Since its 1973 Broadway debut, professional performances of the musical have taken place in many locations, including the West End, opera companies, a 2009 Broadway revival, and other venues. It is also a favorite among regional organizations. Harold Prince filmed it in 1977 and starred Elizabeth Taylor, Len Cariou, Diana Rigg, and Lesley-Anne Down.
Amateur musical theater and light opera groups have also found success with the composition. Performers included 2017's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art musical theater majors. David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center will host an event in June 2024. Production credits for the show will go to Michael Lamon, David and Ryan Belenzon, Stacey Meyer, and Doug Berger.
