Rutgers Scarlet Knights Womens Basketball Information
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights women's basketball team is the intercollegiate basketball program representing Rutgers University-New Brunswick. In the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the institution is a member of Division I of the Big Ten Conference, where sports competitions take place.
The Scarlet Knights play their home basketball games at the Louis Brown Athletic Center, located on the university's campus in Piscataway, New Jersey.
In 1974, the Scarlet Knights, who were formerly known as the Lady Knights until 1995, made their debut in the NCAA and defeated Princeton by a score of 76–60 in their very first game. In 1976, Theresa Shank Grentz was appointed as the head coach of the basketball team, making her the first female coach to be employed on a full-time basis.
With the assistance of Restrepo-Pinero, who not only scored 30 points but was also awarded Most Valuable Player, the Scarlet Knights were able to defeat Texas in the Palestra and win the AIAW National Tournament by a score of 83–77. In 2007, C. Vivian Stringer made history by becoming the first coach in the history of coaching to ever take three teams to the Final Four. They included Rutgers.
During their four appearances in the AIAW National Division I basketball tournament, the Scarlet Knights compiled a cumulative record of 7–4 in their four games.
