SEC Womens Basketball Tournament Information
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) hosts the women's basketball tournament, which is sometimes referred to as the SEC Tournament.
The tournament is a single-elimination competition that includes all league schools (there are currently 14 following the addition of two institutions in 2012). The regular season results of the schools determine the seeding.
The tournament was first conducted in 1980, and its primary purpose was to select the conference's champion. Even though the Southeastern Conference (SEC) started using a standardized conference schedule for the 1982–1983 season, the tournament continued to be used to select the official conference champion until the 1985 edition.
As of the 2017–18 season, the greatest regular-season record would officially earn a club the Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion title. This practice began with the 1985–1986 season.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has given its official conference title to men's basketball teams based on their regular-season record ever since the 1950–51 season. This shift aligned the SEC women's basketball team with men's basketball.
