NCAA Womens Basketball Tournament Information
This spring, 68 women's college basketball teams from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I level compete in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, also known as Women's March Madness. This single-elimination tournament determines the national championship.
The format and selection process are the same as those of the men's tournament as of 2022. The 36 "at-large bids" are awarded by the NCAA Selection Committee, and 32 automatic bids are given to the winners of the Division I leagues. Since the postseason tournament first came under the supervision of the NCAA in 1982, 283 teams have participated in it in some capacity.
The table below displays the results for every year. Since 1996, ESPN has had exclusive rights to the event. In 2003, they renewed their contract for another 11 years at a cost of $200 million, boosting their television coverage to 63 games (up from 23 the previous year), with games in the first two rounds showing regionally on ESPN and ESPN2. The pact was reportedly worth $500 million when ESPN extended it in 2011 through the 2023–24 season.
The 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament:
Regionals will be held at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama from March 28–31, 2025, and the Spokane Regional will be held at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington from March 28–31, 2025.
