MAC Womens Basketball Tournament Information
The women's basketball playoff tournament for the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference is known as the Mid-American Conference Tournament (MAC). An automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament is awarded to the tournament champion. Starting with the 2021 tournament, the top eight teams in MAC play will earn a berth in the postseason tournament.
For both men's and women's basketball, the MAC has done away with divisions in favor of a single league table, extended the conference schedule from 18 to 20, and cut the number of teams competing in the conference championship from 16 to 8. Both the men's and women's tournaments will still take place simultaneously at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, where all qualifying teams play.
From 2012-2018, the top two seeds advanced directly to the semifinals with a "double-bye," while the third and fourth seeds started in the tournament's quarterfinals. Teams ranked 5-12 were required to play an extra two rounds, beginning with games played on campus. Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, which has hosted the men's tournament every year since 2000, was the site of all other games.
