Omaha, Nebraska, is home to Creighton University and the Creighton Bluejays women's basketball team. Following the 2012–13 season, the school's squad left the Missouri Valley Conference and is now a member of the Big East. The Missouri Valley had been home to the Bluejays since the 1992–1993 season.
The first year the women's basketball team competed as an independent, 1973–1974, Eddye McClure coached them, and they went 11–6. Jim Flanery is the current coach of the Bluejays. Eighteen times, the Bluejays have appeared at the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) and once at the National Women's Invitational Tournament, the tournament's forerunner. They have an overall record of 14-9.
