Big East Womens Basketball Tournament Information
Women's basketball conference championships are held annually, and the Big East hosts one such tournament. After the inaugural college basketball season in which the Big East Conference sponsored women's basketball, the tournament was hosted for the first time in 1983. After the old Big East football conference split in 2013 along partisan lines, the non-football league that had adopted the Big East brand continued to honor the previous conference's women's basketball legacy. If a team wins the conference tournament, they get a bid to the NCAA tournament.
The XL Center's Veterans Memorial Coliseum hosted the tournament for 14 years, from 2004 to 2013. (formerly known as the Hartford Civic Center). DePaul University has hosted the first three Big East championships since the conference was revived in 2013. McGrath-Phillips Arena, located on the school's Chicago campus, hosted the first round of games in 2014, while Allstate Arena in Rosemont served as the venue for the rest of the season.
The 2015 tournament was hosted at Allstate Arena, whereas the 2016 tournament was held at McGrath-Phillips. In 2017, for the first time since the tournament's revival, it was held in a city other than Chicago, with all games taking place in Milwaukee at the Al McGuire Center on the campus of Marquette University. The tournament was held at Wintrust Arena, within the McCormick Place convention center on the Near South Side of Chicago, from 2018 through 2020.
