Regarding collegiate women's basketball, Auburn University is represented by the Auburn Tigers. The school's specialty is the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I competition. Auburn Arena, located on the Auburn University campus in Auburn, Alabama, is the home field for the Tigers. The start date for the program was 1971. Auburn has won five regular seasons SEC titles and four SEC tournament titles.
The club went 30-4 under Fortner's coaching in 2011–2012, which included a regular season championship in 2009 and the SEC title. Fortner oversaw the Tigers for eight years when they qualified for the NCAA Tournament twice. In 2012, Terri Williams-Flournoy, who had previously coached for eight seasons at Georgetown University, succeeded Fortner. Williams-Flournoy oversaw the Tigers for nine seasons, during which time they made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, had two seasons with 20 wins, and went to the WNIT twice.
After the 2020–21 season, Williams–Flournoy was let go from her coaching position. Johnnie Harris was appointed the program's seventh head coach on April 3, 2021.
