Zoe Keating Information
Zoë Keating (February 2, 1972) is a Canadian-born composer and cellist. She was once based in San Francisco, California, but now based in Vermont. Zoë Keating is originally from Guelph, Ontario. Her music style is generally defined as cello rock and contemporary classical. She began performing in 2002 till 200 as a chair cellist in the cello rock band named Rasputina. Keating is also featured on debut solo album by Amanda Palmer, entitled Who Killed Amanda Palmer.
While Keating performs and records as a solo artist, she uses live electronic sampling and repetition for the sake of layering the sound of her cello. This creates rhythmically dense musical structures, according to her. One Cello x 16: Natoma is self-produced by her, which was four times number 1 on the iTunes classical charts. Her single "Into the Trees" is famous for spending 47 weeks on the Billboard classical chart, peaking at number 7.
Many songs by Keating have been featured in various commercials, TV shows, video games, films, dance performances which includes CBS's Elementary, NBC's Crisis, So You Think You Can Dance, Have You Heard from Johannesburg, The Day Carl Sandburg Died, MTV's Teen Wolf, Dateline, Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth, The Retrieval, and a few more. Keating was on the highly prestigious list of Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum in July 2011. She showcased he musical talents at the closing ceremony of the Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland of the forum (January 2014 and 2016).
Keating was awarded Contemporary Classical Album from The 10th Annual Independent Music Awards in January 2011.
