Yo-Yo Ma Information
Yo-Yo Ma is an American cellist born in Paris, France. John Williams scored the 1997 Hollywood film Seven Years in Tibet, and Ma was featured on the soundtrack. Shows such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World featured his music. He once again worked with Williams on the score for the film Memoirs of a Geisha.
Not Our First Goat Rodeo, the follow-up album from the same band that brought you The Goat Rodeo Sessions, was released on June 19, 2020. On NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts on September 1, 2020, the same band played some songs from Not Our First Goat Rodeo. Ma appeared on Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4 on June 13, 2021.
The Oscar Peterson Trio's "Tin Tin Deo" and Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi's "Podmoskovnye Vechera - Moscow Nights" were two of his picks for music. The 24 volumes of the Encyclopaedia Britannica were his choice for reading material, while a Swiss Army knife was his choice for a luxury item. After scoliosis nearly ended his music career in his 20s, he said it felt like a "gift" to continue playing. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a 2022 Netflix film, included a cameo appearance by Ma.
