Wire Information
Wire are an English rock band which was founded in London in October 1976. The band included Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Bruce Gilbert (guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals), and Robert Gotobed (drums). The members were originally associated with the punk rock scene and appeared on The Roxy London WC2 album. The group members were later central to the development of post-punk. The music of Wire is defined as post-punk, art-punk, punk rock, experimental rock, electronic, and alternative rock.
Pink Flag was their debut album, which was influential for hardcore punk. The collection contains songs that are diverse in mood and style, such as "Field Day for the Sundays." Chairs Missing (1978) was the second album by Wire which was followed by 154 (1979), The Ideal Copy (1987), IBTABA (1989), Manscape (1990), The Drill (1991), The First Letter (1991), Send (2003), Object 47 (2008), Change Becomes Us (2013), Wire (2015), Silver/Lead (2017), and Mind Hive (2020) to name a few.
Wire was influential on American hardcore punk, and its fans included Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat and Henry Rollins. Some of the hit songs by the band are "The 15th," which was added by the British electronic band Ladytron on the mix compilation Softcore Jukebox, "Strange" cover, "Outdoor Miner" cover, "Mr. Suit" cover, and many more.
Wire has released 17 Live albums and 7 compilation albums such as Play Pop (1986), On Returning (1977–1979) (1989), The Peel Sessions Album (1989), 1985–1990: The A List (1993), and Behind the Curtain (1995) to name a few.
