Winger Information
Winger is an American rock band founded in 1987 and originated from New York City, New York. The group’s music is defined as hard rock, glam metal, and progressive metal. The current lineup consists of Kip Winger – lead vocals, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, piano; Reb Beach – rhythm guitar, backing vocals, harmonica, keyboards, piano; Rod Morgenstein – drums, percussion, backing vocals, piano; Paul Taylor – keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, piano; and John Roth – rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals, bass guitar, keyboards.
Winger released its self-titled debut album on August 10, 1988, via Atlantic Records. The album earned platinum status in the US and gold certification in Canada and Japan, also peaking at number 21 on the Billboard 200. Some of the hit songs included on the album are “Seventeen,” “Headed for a Heartbreak,” “Madalaine,” and “Hungry.” The second album by Winger was released in 1990, entitled In the Heart of the Young. The album was followed by a 13-month world tour, playing 230+ dates with Scorpions, ZZ Top, Kiss, and Extreme.
Some of the other notable studio albums by Winger are Pull (1993), IV (2006), Karma (2009), and Better Days Comin’ (2014). Winger Live is the only live album by the band released on November 27, 2007. The two of the compilation albums are The Very Best of Winger 2001 and Demo Anthology 2007. Winger performed in Providence, Rhode Island, on February 25, 2008, as part of a benefit for Station nightclub fire’s survivors.
