Willy Mason Information
Willy Mason (November 21, 1984) is an American singer and songwriter. Mason was born in White Plains in the state of New York. Mason and his family moved from Tarrytown, New York, to West Tisbury, Massachusetts, on the island of Martha's Vineyard when Mason was five years old. He went to Chilmark Elementary School through fifth grade, West Tisbury Elementary School, and Martha's Vineyard Regional High School. He was a Keep Thinking, Cultivation, and Slow Leslie, among other local bands.
Mason's first commercial release was the G-Basement Ma's EP, a five-track extended-play record. "Live It Up," "Hard Hand to Hold," "Waiter at the Station," "Not Lie Down," and "Oxygen" were among the solo acoustic tracks. The album was sold during live appearances in 2004 and on the internet.
Mason took a break from performing live in 2004 and 2005, culminating in a performance at the Glastonbury Festival, and returned to his family's home on Martha's Vineyard. He started creating new songs and forming a band with Nina Violet on viola and backing vocals and Zak Borden on mandolin. They began touring the United States and Europe with other musicians in early 2006. Beth Orton, Death Cab For Cutie, Radiohead, KT Tunstall, and Sondre Lerche was among the artists he backed.
Mason toured Australia in September 2015 as part of the ensemble cast of "A State of Grace," a themed event including Tim and Jeff Buckley's music. He also contributed vocals to Jamie Woon's tune Celebration from his album Making Time later that year.
