San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Information
Every year in February, San Antonio, Texas, hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, a cattle show and rodeo. It's on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association calendar. For 14 years, it won the PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year.
In addition to the rodeo, there will be performances by famous musicians, carnival rides, games, and shopping. The expected number of attendees for the 2022 event was 1,300,000. The rodeo is one of the city's biggest draws, right up there with Fiesta San Antonio.
While the formation of the organization took place in 1949, the first rodeo occurred in 1950. Since then, it has been an annual occurrence that spans three weeks of February each year. Originally held in the Joe & Harry Freeman Coliseum, the rodeo transferred its main events to the AT&T Center, now the Frost Bank Center in 2003. When the nearby Freeman Coliseum opened for use, it provided an additional venue for vendors selling Western attire, furniture, and other goods during the annual rodeo.
In 1984, the initiative began with distributing fifteen four-year scholarships worth $90,000 to incoming first-year students at universities in Texas. More than $186 million has been donated to Texan students since then through the organization's scholarship, grant, endowment, junior livestock auction, young western art auction, calf scramble, and show premium initiatives.
