Billy Strings Information
Billy Strings (October 3, 1992) is an American bluegrass musician and guitarist. He was born in Lansing, Michigan. Don Julin, a mandolin musician and author of the book Mandolin for Dummies, asked Strings to perform with him for compensation in 2012. For the next four years, they worked together successfully. Rolling Stone included Strings in their list of 2017's Top Ten New Country Artists.
In addition to Dierks Bentley and Del McCoury, he has shared the stage with Bill Kreutzmann, Bob Weir, David Grisman, Larry Keel, Sam Bush, and many more. In 2021, he began performing with Bill Kreutzmann's Billy & the Kids alongside saxophonist James Casey. At the Newport Folk Festival in 2021, he performed as a solo act. His third studio album, Renewal, came out on September 24, 2021.
Strings earned Entertainer of the Year for the second year at the 2022 International Bluegrass Music Awards, while "Red Daisy" took home the award for Best Original Song. On October 3, 2022, Strings revealed that the album Me/And/Dad would collaborate with his father, Terry Barber. The CD is scheduled for release on November 18, 2022, and features traditional, country, and bluegrass music from artists including George Jones, Doc Watson, Hank Thompson, A.P. Carter, and others.
