Well-Strung Information
Well-Strung is an American string quartet founded in 2012 and is based in New York City. The quartet is well-known for its fusion of classical music with modern pop music. The founding members of the group are producer Mark Cortale and Chris Marchant. Other members of the band include Edmund Bagnell, Christopher Marchant, Daniel Shevlin, and Trevor Wadleig.
Well-Strung crats its arrangements by combining styles of music. An excellent example of this is the group's cover of Taylor Swift's Blank Space, which was layered with excerpts from Bach's Partita No. 3. The band shares personal anecdotes with the audience during their live shows, in between songs, which results in part-concert and part-cabaret performance.
During the first year of its inception, Well-Strung performed over 100 shows, and it toured internationally. The group also performed at the gala for Barack Obama, played for Hillary Clinton, and shared the stage with celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris, Audra McDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, and Deborah Voigt. Well-Strung has also appeared on The Today Show three times and on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Marchant and Wadleigh, two of the band members, competed on The Amazing Race 30 in 2018.
Well-Strung plays regular shows in cities all across America. They play around 120 shows per year, and the band has held annual summer residences in Provincetown, Massachusetts, since its inception. The quartet has so far recorded three albums that are Well-Strung (2013), POPssical (2015), and Under the Covers (2018).
