Weidner Philharmonic Information
The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, or WCPA, is located at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is a performing arts center. On January 15, 1993, the venue was inaugurated, bearing the name of Edward Weidner, the university's first chancellor. The initial intent of surgeon David A. Cofrin's legacy to the Weidner family was for the center to serve the community and be situated on the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay campus.
Since a performing arts facility was originally intended for UW-Green Bay's campus, the institution utilized state funding to finance the project. In the late 1980s, the building's namesake chancellor, Weidner, launched a fundraising campaign to collect the remaining $18.4 million.
By 2019, the Weidner Philharmonic has become the symphony of The Weidner. They provide live orchestration for The Nutcracker ballet in collaboration with the Northeastern Wisconsin Dance Organization. Also, they do regular shows dubbed Symphonic Night at the Movies, when they perform the film's score to accompany the film's visuals.
