Warren Damonte Griffin III (November 10, 1970) is an American producer and rapper known for his role in the West Coast rap’s 1990s ascent. His stage name professionally knows him, Warren G. He formed the hip-hop trio called 213 and included Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg. The trio was named for the area code of Long Beach. He is also known as the pioneer of G-funk, attaining mainstream success with his single released in 1994 entitled “Regulate. It was a duet with Nate Dogg. The younger stepbrother of Dr. Dre introduced Warren G to Snoop Dogg, who he later signed.
Warren G released his debut album, Regulate… G Funk Era. The album was certified 3X multi-platinum. The album spent almost 18 weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. It also remained on number 2 for three weeks. The single “This D.J.” reached number 9. Both of the songs brought Grammy nominations for him.
Warren G released his second album, Take a Look Over Your Shoulder. Three singles from this album also reached the Top 40. In 1998, he performed a duet with Nate Dogg entitled “Nobody Does It Better.” He released his next album, I Want It All, and both of the albums were also certified gold. These are his last albums to attain certification. Warren G also released a comeback album, The Return of the Regulator. The album did good for him but could not break the records of his own earlier releases.
