War the Band Information
War is an American funk, rock, and soul band. The current lineup consists of Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan, James Zota Baker, Scott Martin, Stanley Behrens, Sal Rodriguez, David "Pug" Rodriguez, Marcos Reyes, and Trevor Huxley. Eric Burdon Declared "War" was the debut album by Eric Burdon and War, which they recorded after performing live to crowds around Southern California. The album's most famous song, "Spill the Wine," helped begin the band's career.
Their 1973 album, The World Is a Ghetto, topped the album charts on Billboard. The band's multi-ethnic lineup allowed them to break down cultural and racial barriers. There have been numerous lineup changes in War's history, with only current member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan remaining from the initial lineup; four members left to form a new group named the Lowrider Band.
Avenue / Rhino Records reprinted much of War's back catalog that year, including a "Spill the Wine" performance by Eric Burdon and War at the London Royal Albert Hall on April 21, 2008. The concert was later released as Greatest Hits Live. The 2009 and 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations for War were unsuccessful. The 2014 double CD album Evolutionary was War's new studio album; the other disc was a reissue of their 1976 Greatest Hits album.
