Voivod Information
Voivod is a Canadian heavy metal band. The current lineup of the group consists of Dominic "Rocky" Laroche, Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain, Denis "Snake" Belanger, Michel "Away" Langevin. The band has undergone many lineup changes over its 41-year history, with only Langevin remaining constant. In addition to Langevin and Bélanger, their current lineup consists of guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain and bassist Dominic "Rocky" Laroche.
Since their inception in the early 1980s, Voivod's music has undergone several stylistic shifts. Voivod's metal sound evolved from their roots as a speed metal band, with progressive and thrash metal influences. Along with Sacrifice, Razor, and Annihilator, Voivod is considered one of the "big four" Canadian thrash metal bands, and the band is often credited with establishing the "technical thrash metal" subgenre.
Voivod, co-founded by guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in 1982, has released fifteen studio albums, one EP, one live album, two compilations, seven demos, and a live concert DVD since the band's inception. Nothingface (1989), the band's fifth studio album, is the only one of their releases to rank on the Billboard 200, and it brought them widespread success in the late '80s. A "Visionary" award was given to the group at the 2017 Progressive Music Awards.
