Valley Symphony Orchestra Information
The Valley Symphony Orchestra (VSO) has been performing classical music in the Rio Grande Valley since 1952, when it was founded as a volunteer orchestra. Under the direction of Dr. Carl Seale, the orchestra began as a student and community ensemble at the University of Texas-Pan American, a legacy institution of the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley, and has since grown into an all-professional ensemble under Maestro Peter Dabrowski. The Valley Symphony Orchestra Chorale began in 1984 with the formation of the Valley Symphony Orchestra.
The Valley Symphony Orchestra performs its season in the McAllen Performing Arts Center, located in the center of the Convention Center District. The MPAC, a state-of-the-art 1700-seat performance hall that opened in 2017 and is acoustically calibrated to the Valley Symphony Orchestra is a state-of-the-art 1700-seat performance hall that opened in 2017.
The VSO performs 5-6 classical concerts each year, six educational concerts, various unique chamber and community events, and a gala and fundraiser performance. The VSO is poised to strengthen its impact and be a catalyst for the growth in the Rio Grande Valley. Thanks to its prime location at the McAllen Performing Arts Center, its commitment to arts education for Valley students, and its constantly expanding organizational capacity.
