Tucson Symphony Orchestra Information
The Tucson Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is an American based in Tucson, Arizona's premier professional orchestra. The TSO is the Southwest's longest continually running performing arts group, founded in 1928 when the season consisted of only two concerts. The TSO's season now runs from September to May. It includes over 60 concerts, including an eight-concert Classics Series, four-concert Pops Series, five-concert Masterworks Series, several one-night-only specials, and run-out concerts to nearby areas such as Oro Valley, Green Valley, Bisbee, Safford, Thatcher, and Nogales.
Each season, the TSO also offers educational activities to approximately 40,000 schoolchildren. The TSO's standing chamber ensembles are a string quartet, piano trio, harp trio, brass quintet, and woodwind quintet. These groups contribute to educational programming through school visits, annual recitals, and private and community events performances.
The TSO presents classical, big band, folk, jazz, pop, and mariachi music and commissions and performs new works by living composers. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra aims to bring beautiful, professionally played music to as many people as possible.
