Tuck and Patti Information
Tuck & Patti is an American jazz duo. The lineup consists of Williams Charles "Tuck" Andress (guitarist) and Patricia "Patti" Cathcart Andress (singer). In 1978, Tuck Andress, a guitarist, and Patti Cathcart, a singer, met at an audition in San Francisco. Andress had previously attended Stanford for classical music study and worked as a session musician for The Gap Band. Cathcart was also a member of The Brides of Funkenstein and had a classical music background.
In 1983, Andress tied the knot with Cathcart. They joined a rock and roll cover band once they settled in San Francisco, Cathcart's birthplace. To further hone their sound, they turned down recording contracts. The group's breakthrough album, Tears of Joy, was released in 1987 and was played on jazz and pop radio stations across the United States when they signed with Windham Hill Jazz, a division of Windham Hill. Later, in 1995, they signed with Epic after recording several additional albums for Windham Hill Jazz.
After that, they recorded additional albums for Windham Hill and 33rd Street. T&P Records is their label, and they've licensed their CDs for distribution worldwide. They also hold voice and guitar workshops and private sessions. It is noted that Andress employs "unusual percussive and tapping techniques to create rhythmically unbelievable effects" in The Jazz Book. He picked up a Gibson L-5 in 1953 because of the type Wes Montgomery used.
