Tony Terry Information
Antonio "Tony" Terry (March 12, 1964) is an American jack swing singer. He was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Terry completed his studies at Washington, DC's Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The freestyle/pop combo Sweet Sensation and the hip-hop group The Boogie Boys hired him as a backup singer. A music contract with Epic/CBS Records was signed by him in 1987. Released in the same year, Terry's debut single "She's Fly" reached number 10 on the Billboard R&B singles list.
In 1988, Terry released his first album for Epic titled Forever Yours, which charted in the top 40 on Billboard's R&B albums chart. "Lovey Dovey" and "Forever Yours" had subsequent singles in the R&B top 20. Tony also collaborated with label mate Flame on "On the Strength" in 1989; the song peaked at 59 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and 11 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart.
The single "With You" from Terry's self-titled second album, released in 1990, was his biggest hit, peaking in the top 20 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the top 10 on the R&B chart. The R&B chart placed "Everlasting Love" at #6. Terry left Epic and is now recording for Virgin. In 1994, he released Heart of a Man, his first album with the company—the song "When a Man Cries" was included in the top 40 R&B songs on Billboard.
