Tony Lindsay Information
Tony Lindsay (1954) is an American vocalist and is also known for being the longest-tenured lead singer for Santana. He was born in Kingston, New York. Lindsay spent eight years in Albany, the state capital, where he attended Albany State University, an hour's drive up the Hudson from his childhood home. In 1980, Lindsay relocated to San Jose, California, and has remained in the Bay Area ever since. When Lindsay first arrived in California, she worked at a department shop and Guitar Center in downtown San Jose. For several years, he was a member of the Danny Hull Quintet, playing jazz in area establishments.
Milagro (1992) was Lindsay's debut with Santana and the band's first studio album to fall outside the top 100 on Billboard's album chart. The songs "Life Is for Living" and "Make Somebody Happy" both include Lindsay's vocals. During the release of Supernatural (1999), one of the biggest-selling albums of all time, Lindsay was Santana's primary vocalist. Over 30 million copies of Supernatural have been sold worldwide, with 15 million of those being sold in the United States alone. (Da Le) Yaleo, Migra, Primavera, The Calling, and Africa Bamba are only some of the songs on the CD to which he is credited.
Lindsay has worked with and shared the stage with such notable musicians as Tevin Campbell, the O'Jays, Al Jarreau, Steve Winwood, Johnny Gill, Teddy Pendergrass, Aretha Franklin, and Lou Rawls. In 1993, in New York's Avery Fischer Hall, he played a duet with Angela Bofill and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
