Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj (August 18, 1990) is a Canadian model, visual artist, and rapper. She is professionally known by her stage name, Tommy Genesis. Genesis was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She has Tamil and Swedish ancestors. She earned her bachelor's degree in cinema and sculpture from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Genesis began recording rap in 2013 as part of the G3NESIS project. Genesis signed with Awful Records in 2015 and released World Vision, her debut mixtape. She signed with Downtown Records/Universal in 2017. On Genesis's debut mixtape World Vision, she worked with Abra, another Awful record artist, on the tune "Hair Like Water Wavy Like the Sea."
Genesis released the single "100 Bad" on July 28, 2018. This is Genesis' second collaboration with music producer Charlie Heat, who she previously collaborated with on the song "Tommy" in 2017. Tommy Genesis, her debut album, is out now through Downtown/The Orchard. On September 7, British singer-songwriter Charli XCX released a remix of "100 Bad." Tommy Genesis, her debut album, was released on November 9, 2018. On the track ROUGH 7, she collaborated with American experimental hip-hop artist JPEGMAFIA on his EP! in 2020.
