The Whispers Information
The Whispers were founded in 1963 and originated from Los Angeles, California. The group's music is defined as soul, funk, and boogie. The original members included identical twin brothers Wallace "Scotty" and Walter Scott, who were also the group's founders. The current lineup of The Whispers consists of the twin brothers and Leaveil Degree. Some of the supporting musicians are John Valentino — saxophone, Dewayne Sweet — keyboards, Emilio Conesa — guitar, Reggie Rugley — keyboards, programming; Gino Blacknell - keyboards, bass; and Melvin Coleman – bass.
The Whispers scored many hits on the R&B and Billboard Hot 100 charts during their initial years. The group hit number 1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1979/80 with their singles like "And the Beat Goes On," "Can You Do the Boogie," and "Out the Box." The band also opened Game 2 of the 1989 World Series at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum.
The Whispers have released many hit singles throughout its career such as "Your Love Is So Doggone Good," "I Only Meant to Wet My Feet," "What More Can a Girl Ask For?," "You're Only as Good as You Think You Are," "(Olivia) Lost and Turned Out," "It's a Love Thing," and "Some Kinda Lover." The band has released a few compilation albums, including The Best of the Whispers, 30th Anniversary Anthology, and Greatest Slow Jams, Vol. 2.
Live from Las Vegas 2007 is the only live album released by The Whispers. Some of the band's notable studio albums are This Kind of Lovin', Love for Love, More of the Night, and Toast to the Ladies.
