The Spinners Information
The Spinners are a rhythm and blues vocal group formed in 1954 in Ferndale, Michigan. The current lineup of the band consists of Henry Fambrough, Charlton Washington, Jessie Robert Peck, Marvin Taylor, and Ronnie Moss. The group enjoyed a string of hit albums and singles during the 1960s and 1970s. At that time, they were working particularly with producer Thom Bell. The Spinners also toured with Henry Fambrough as the original members. They are also listed as the Motown Spinners and Detroit Spinners.
The Spinners released their debut single entitled “That’s What Girls Are Made For.” It was recorded under Tri-Phi Records by Harvey Fuqua. The single reached 27 on the Top 100 charts in August during the year 2011. Their debut took place at the Apollo Theatre in 1964 and received high favor with the group later signing to Atlantic in 1972. At that time, the group was respected, but they lacked commercial success as a singing group. After collaborating with songwriter Thom Bell, The Spinners charted five Top 100 singles from their first post-Motown album entitled “Spinners” in 1973. After this, the group went on to become one of the most prominent soul groups of the 1970s.
The Spinners have released several notable studio albums since they were active. Some of their studio albums are The Original Spinners (1967), 2nd Time Around (1970), New and Improved (1974), Happiness Is Being with the Spinners (1976), Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow (1977), From Here to Eternally (1978).
