Sara McDonald, a singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, leads the 18-piece NYChillharmonic, an orchestra that plays progressive jazz and indie rock in Brooklyn. The music combines rock, pop, and jazz elements to produce an original style that pays homage to jazz's rich history and welcomes new sounds, textures, and harmonic possibilities.
Montreal Jazz Festival, Perth International Jazz Festival, Buenos Aires International Jazz Festival, Keio University Jazz Fest (Tokyo), David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Joe's Pub, National Sawdust, (le) Poisson Rouge, and The Iridium in New York City are just a few of the festivals and venues the band has played at. Over 400 musicians have performed The NYChillharmonic's music on five continents and in ten nations.
The ASCAP "Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award" and the "Phoebe Jacobs Prize" have been given to NYChillharmonic for their compositions. Sara was also featured on Brooklyn Magazine's "30 under 30" list, which honors New York City's most promising young musicians, artists, and entrepreneurs.
