The Damn Quails began as a weekly jam session between two songwriters from Oklahoma. Gabe Marshall and Bryon White got up for a weekly gig that quickly drew in a cast of individuals who played various instruments. The Damn Quails were born due to these sessions, which quickly drew a crowd and resulted in the formation of a semi-stable line-up. "Down The Hatch," the band's debut album, was released in 2011. The band has firmly established itself as a traveling force hell-bent on bringing its kind of music to as many people as possible. The Damn Quails continue the great Oklahoma legacy of songwriting, which has generated many memorable songs, bands, singers, and moments by drawing from various genres.
The band did the only thing it could and kept touring, spreading the word the only way they knew how: performing live. The band made friends and fans all around the country night after night. They didn't have any CDs or t-shirts to sell for a long period to make ends meet. They had no choice but to play. Most bands would have crumbled in this scenario, but The Quails refused to give up. They had themselves, their music, and, of course, The Covey to guide them. The litigation was finally settled after two years. The Damn Quails was given ownership of the moniker and was finally permitted to record and release new music.
