System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band from Glendale, California, formed in 1994. The band consists of Shavo Odadjian (backing vocals, bass), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), John Dolmayan (drums), and Serj Tankian (keyboards and lead vocals). The band played as a “Soil” at a nightclub in Los Angeles named Fais Do-Do. After this event, the band released Untitled 1995 Demo Tape. The album was not commercially released, but it was shared around various file-sharing networks.
They are known for mixing metal, rock, and Armenian music. Their songs often talk about political and social issues. Their first album, "Toxicity", in 2001, made them famous. Toxicity included big hits like Chop Suey! and Aerials, which are still loved today.
