Pop-trash duo SummerSalt, consisting of drummer Eugene Chung and singer/guitarist Matthew Terry, has been working on their most recent album, Sequoia Moon (2021), since leaving their Dallas, Texas, hometown for the arts and culture haven of Austin in the early 2010s. With their 2014 release Driving To Hawaii, brimming with both the escapism and recklessness of youth and the elegance and charm of '60s-era pop, doo-wop and bossa nova, the band quickly soared through the ranks of the local Austin scene.
The band's status as one of the biggest stars in the indie genre was established with their albums Happy Camper 2018, Honeyweed 2019, and Avenue G from 2020. As American Songwriter and Live Nation's Ones To Watch praised SummerSalt for its breezy, synesthetic soundscapes, the band rocketed beyond 1 million monthly Spotify listeners and went on tour across the globe.
With their upcoming album, The Juniper Songbook, SummerSalt are prepared to reinterpret their past, whereas Sequoia Moon saw them forging toward that promising future. The band will revisit nine songs from their repertoire in The Juniper Songbook, which will be released on March 11 via Cherry Lime Records via The Orchard.
