Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. (July 26, 1993) is professionally known as Stormzy. He is a British rapper, songwriter, and singer from Croydon, London. Stormzy plays Grime, British Hip Hop, and R&B music genres. He is a cousin of rapper Nadia Rose. His interest in music developed at an early age and began rapping at the age of 11.
Stormzy began his career after attending UK underground music scene through the Wicked Skengman series. He released his debut EP entitled Dreamers Disease in July 2014. For this release, he earned the Best Grime Act at the MOBO Awards on October 22, 2014. At the end of the same month, he became the first unsigned rapper who appeared on Later... with Jools Holland. Stormzy performed the song "Not That Deep" (Dreamers Disease).
Stormzy ranked no.3 in the "BBC Introducing top 5" on Radio 1 on January 7, 2015. In March of the same year, he released his single "Know Me From," which hit no.49 on the UK Singles Chart. Later in September, Stormzy released his final installment named "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series and "WickedSkengMan 4". The release was onto iTunes. He also released a studio version of his hit single "Shut Up," which debuted no.18 on the UK chart. It was declared to be the first-ever freestyle that reached the top 40 in the UK.
Stormzy also launched a Christmas number 1 campaign to get the Shut Up song to no.1. Some of the other singles and albums by him are "Scary" (April 2016), Gang Signs & Prayer album (February 24, 2017), "Crown", "Sounds of the Skeng"Heavy Is the Head album, "Wiley Flow", "Voss Bop", and a few more. He also performed at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival on the Pyramid Stage, for which he was heavily praised.
