Special EFX Allstars Information
Special EFX, the contemporary jazz band led by guitarist Chieli Minucci, will celebrate its 40th year of recording and performing in 2022 with the release of Twenty Twenty 2. The current lineup of the group consists of Chieli Minucci (guitar), Karen Briggs (violin), Eric Marienthal (saxophone), Lao Tizer (keys), Gary Novak (drums), and Anthony Crawford (bass).
Minucci and percussionist George Jinda came up with the idea for the band in 1982. Minucci's edgy, lyrical, and driving style combined with Jinda's temperament and rhythm achieved the perfect mix, resulting in a distinctively fresh and original sound that fused powerful percussive world elements with clever, energetic, playful, and memorable guitar lines.
Minucci is currently the band's leader and driving force. He has worked with a few of the biggest names in pop music, including Céline Dion, Lou Reed, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Bolton, Marc Anthony, and some of jazz's best, like Jeff Lorber and Kirk Whalum.
