Sol - Alexander Rosenberg Information
Sol Alexander Rosenberg (December 7, 1988) is an American hip-hop artist. He is best known as Sol or Solzilla. He was born in Seattle, Washington. He started his career by rapping in middle school and his cousin, Ben Fodor. He further cultivated his musical aspirations while apprenticing at North Seattle’s Undercast Studios.
In 2009, Sol released his debut album independently entitled, The Ride. It was followed by three free EPs, including Dear Friends, Vol. I, Vol. II, and Vol. III. His EP, Dear Friends, Vol. II reached KEXP’s Hip-Hop Top 10 chart in 2010. The song “Dear Friend” was also included in Sound Session Best of 2010 by KUBE’s. He released another song, “So Damn High,” in October 2010. The song peaked the charts on Kings of Leon, deadmau5, and The Hype Machine. Seattle Time also covered his live in-studio performance on KEXP.
Sol completed his graduation from the University of Washington in 2011. He was awarded the Bonderman Fellowship that grabbed him to travel the world for around ten months.
Sol released his second album, Yours Truly, independently on January 20, 2012. It swiftly ascended to number 1 in the United States and number 4 worldwide on the iTunes Hip-Hop Album lists and placed on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. Following engagements at Live Nation’s Sasquatch! Music Festival, a West Coast tour, and a sold-out show at Seattle’s The Showbox in June 2012, Sol embarked on a ten-month fellowship that took him to ten countries, including Ethiopia, Uganda, and South Africa. He returned to the United States.
