Scarface Information
Scarface, real name Brad Terrence Jordan, was given his moniker after appearing in the 1983 film of the same name. Hip-hop group the Geto Boys signed him as a rapper after hearing him perform as a DJ for the label shortly after his 1970 birth in Houston. Grip It! On That Other Level, the band's record, was a commercial triumph and sparked his solo career.
Scarface won the Lyricist of the Year award in 2001 for his solo effort The Last of a Dying Breed, which he recorded while still a member of the Geto Boys. He has guested on a Ray Cash track and has rapped with Big Gee and Akon. Scarface is also a producer; he was in charge of Def Jam South's record label from 2000 to 2005, when he signed the rapper Ludacris.
Scarface was a superb lyricist who greatly influenced rap, but he was never widely popular because of the controversial subject matter of several of his songs. Comedian Chris Rock previously named Scarface one of the top three MCs ever. Scarface won the I Am Hip Hop honor in 2015. Scarface has worked with rappers like Eminem, Drake, and Ice Cube on recent projects, and he regularly performs at concerts and festivals nationwide.
