Said the Whale Information
Said the Whale is a Canadian indie rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Lincoln Hotchen, Bradley Connor, Jaycelyn Brown, Tyler Bancroft, and Ben Worcester. In 2007, they dropped their first extended play, Taking Abalonia. On June 3, 2008, in Canada, it was reissued as a full-length LP under the name Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia, which featured seven new tracks. When Said the Whale was preparing to release their second studio album, Islands Disappear, on October 13, 2009, they dropped the EP The Magician on July 1.
After finishing second to artist Kyprios in CKPK-FM's 2010 Peak Performance Project, they won $75,000 on November 18, 2010. When Said the Whale first came to the United States, it was in the spring of 2011. Winning America, a CBC documentary directed by Brent Hodge and Thomas Buchan, focused on them during this period.
Said the Whale received the 2011 Juno Award for New Group of the Year, and the film chronicled their journey and performances along the West Coast of North America en route to and from the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. The documentary was first broadcast on British Columbia television on July 23, 2011, and nationally across Canada on April 7, 2012. For their third studio album, Little Mountain, which was released worldwide on March 6, 2012, they dropped the EP New Brighton on November 8, 2011.
