Ruthie Foster Information
Ruthie Cecelia Foster (February 10, 1964) is an American blues and folk singer and songwriter. She mixes a wide palette of American song forms from folk and soul to gospel, blues, and jazz. Foster has often been compared to Aretha Franklin and Bonnie Raitt. She is from Gause, Texas and her family had gospel singers. She was a soloist in her hometown choir at fourteen. She was certain about her future that she would be pursuing music as her career. After high school, Foster moved to Waco, Texas, to attend community college. She continued her studies there and concentrated on music and audio engineering.
Foster also started fronting a blues band. She learned how to command a stage in the bars of Texas. Foster self-released the album entitled, Full Circle in 1997. The album’s success paved the way to a long relationship with Blue Corn Music. The label also released the follow-up album in 1999 entitled, Crossover, Stages in 2004, and Runaway Soul in 2002. In 2006, she came up with a new release entitled, Heal Yourself. It was followed by the studio album, The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster, in 2008, produced by Papa Mali. Blue Corn released another album for Foster in 2009 entitled, The Truth According to Ruthie Foster. The album was produced by Chris Goldsmith, a Grammy Award-winning producer. The album also gained a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
